Chump change
So Christopher has been off of work most of this week. We had a death in the family and when he went to ask about getting the day off his boss told him to take the 3 days he's given. Chris didn't want to but his boss more or less forced him to so, whatever. He took the days and used them to car hunt (which was, finally, successful! And no, we aren't disrespectful jerks. The funeral was on a normal day off for Christopher). However, prior to finding the car, we were still a one car family, it was still during the week and I still had stuff to do. So lucky him got to "job shadow" me. One of these days involved a trip out of town to do a mystery shop and a quick stop at the car lots in said town for him. But having decided he hadn't been tortured enough (seriously. He can't read my mind?! I think I got a defective husband here!) I decided to drag him to one of my grocery pricing events. I had a friend post on Facebook that Aldi's was a wasteland among grocery stores and that, of course, made me HAVE to go investigate myself. Not to mention, I think our $200 a month grocery budget can be trimmed even more-hey! I like a challenge. So we went, And Chris had to go too (oh yea, poor guy *pssshhh*). And let me just tell you what! Aldi's? Not so bad. The last time I had been there was years ago to buy an area rug which my dogs promptly peed on and I threw away two days later. But this time I was surprised to find not only meat and cheese, but fresh produce! And fish! (and doughnuts oh my!) And the produce was pretty good too. Particularly the potatoes which were better quality, and $1 cheaper, the Wal-mart's cheapest bag. I know, all of this was probably there before, but I was focused on that nice rug I bought for my trashcan. Oh! And some of the packaging is just so dang cute! Yes! Cute groceries! And they weren't even small versions (since, you know, everything small is cute-duh.)*gasp* I mean, I've never wanted to sit a package of cheese on my shelf before just because its pretty, but Aldi's cheese, with the cute little duck family marching across the side, makes me consider it. But I also had a nice reminder as to why I don't take my darling husband grocery shopping with me. Its hard to focus on onions when he is in the background squawking about a dang quesa-dilla maker. And yes, I mean quesa-dilla maker, Neapolitan Dynamite style. SO I guess it would be Case-a Dill-a. Eh.
