The story

The birth story:

We went into the hospital at 7 a.m. on Thursday morning and were taken up to the room. The doctor came in really quickly and gave me this pill that was supposed to start labor. He came back sometime around noon to check the progress only to find that I had barely made any. So he broke my water and said he'd be pack later as that should help push things along. Humph. I started having contractions then but nothing really bad- I could barely feel them. We were all still sitting around watching t.v. The only thing different was that I was getting really hot and proceeded to freeze everyone out of my room, haha. Well the doctor had said that if I still wasn't progressing in about an hour they would start the devils drug, aka, pitcion. Well when they checked again I still was doing nothing so the started the pitcion on me which was supposed to make the contractions more "productive"- or painful depending how you feel about it. Well I started to finally feel it then. The contractions we starting to come literally nonstop, without and real pause in between. This is where everything starts to get kind of blurry. I remember I could barely move because of the pain- good thing to because I was attached to the bed. Finally I asked for some pain medication and they gave me Nubain which helped a ton. Until it wore off so I asked for another dose. By this time the nurses had switched and my new nurse was mean and I don't think she actually gave me pain meds because they didn't help at all. Eventually, the contractions were getting to bad. I had wanted to avoid the epidural but after having started the pitcion (which I might add, they had to keep adjusting because even the nurses said I wasn't getting the needed break in my contractions) I couldn't any longer. I think I was super close to breaking someone's hand! And, like my mom said, she thinks that I was fighting the contractions in an effort to catch a break and I would agree. Anyways- moving on, they get me the epidural and it kicks in almost instantly. He said I would still feel stuff but I couldn't feel a dang thing and I was happy about that considering my contractions had literally doubled in intensity (I was watching the monitor. When I asked for the epi they register around the 40-60 range and when he finished they were shooting up to the 100 levels- ouch!) I do want to say that I made it to 5 cm, before caving so at least I tried. Anyways, got the epi and was happy as could be sitting in bed feeling nothing, although I still don't remember much probably because of how tired I was but oh well, I was moving along. My mom decided to pop out real quick and get some dinner so she left thinking she would make it back before anything happened- uuummm nope! While she was gone I made it all the way to the end and then things got nutso. My lovely nurse didn't tell me what was going on, just looked at the monitor and started calling everyone and their brother in which freaked me out- turns out it was pushing time! So away I went, for an hour and half. The people started leaving because it was obvious the baby wasn't making her appearance yet. Well another nurse came in and decided that I was pushing right because I couldn't feel anything so she called to have my epidural shut off *gulp* This scared the crap outta me but in the end it helped. I pushed for another 2ish hours and then just when the doctor came in hinting at c section, out she came! From start to finish it was 18 hours of labor and boy was I tired! In fact besides her birth the next exciting part of my night was when I passed out in the bathroom. My *lovely* nurse thought I would be ok on my on after an epidural, 18 hours of labor and nearly 24 hours without food and abandoned me. Luckily, my mom and Christopher were watching me and were able to catch me before I cracked my head on the floor. I don't remember much of that part but there you have it....and that...is the rest of the story.
