New Years Resolutions

I like to take my time with these things. I know, I've got all year but who REALLY thinks about these things ahead of time?? I mean, if its March and something pops up you don't go "Hey, that'd be a good resolution for NEXT year", do you? No. Procrastinators. And I'm a hypocrite! I spent so much time in the past thinking of really meaningful resolutions that I never made any at all! Well, my Mid-November resolution was to make a real and meaningful resolution for the new year. Some easy ones to give me motivation and some hard ones for a sense of accomplishment. So I've finally decided and here they are:

EASY:
  • Not to cut my hair all year. I'm going to get one trim sometime soon so I have a cute, grow-out-able style then not another.
  • Get back on, and STAY on track with my diabetes maintenance. Sounds hard but when I take a second to think about what'll happen if I DON'T take care of myself, its pretty good motivation. I've gotten back on the train so far, now I just need to focus on not taking a road trip half way through the ride.
HARD:
  • Get our finances straightened out. We had a hard year. Stupid mistakes catch up eventually. We did a lot of research and a lot of budgets and  A LOT of  learning the hard way. This is the year to apply what we've learned and make a difference in our life.
  • QUIT DRINKING SODA. If you know me, you know how hard this is. I'm never to far from my Coke. Not only is it not healthy all around, its detrimental to my easy goal of riding the "I keep my diabetes in check" train. "Hi, my name is Elly and I'm an addict"- Hey, do you think there is a   caffeine-aholics anonymous around here?
  • I'd really like to put my own team together for one of the cancer run/walk fundraisers. I've done the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure in Indy and the Relay for Life several times (here and once in Avon). Always a part of a corporate sponsor. Well I have no corporate sponsor now and at any rate, my participation in the last Relay for Life really left a sour taste in my mouth concerning corporate teams. I'm pretty sure there is a Stomp Out Diabetes campaign too but I don't know much about it. Need to look into that...
So there you are. My goals for the next year. I've got a lot of small ones too. Small, silly, nonsense ones like: keep my house clean, cook every night, be an awesome mother (ok, not silly or small or nonsense but I think I'm doing ok here), don't pick fights, be a good wife, teach Sophia how to read (see, silly), etc. And of course, some things I like to remind myself of this time of year: be/remain open minded, be myself, listen, learn, laugh, love and grow.
